Ingredients
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Whipped cream (optional)
- Cinnamon sticks (optional)
Instructions
- Separate the egg yolks from the egg whites, and place the yolks in a large bowl.
- Add the sugar to the bowl with the egg yolks, and whisk until the mixture becomes pale and thick.
- In a separate saucepan, heat the milk and cream over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- Once the milk and cream mixture is hot but not boiling, remove from heat.
- Slowly pour the hot milk and cream mixture into the bowl with the egg yolks and sugar, whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from cooking.
- Add the vanilla extract and ground nutmeg to the mixture, and whisk until well combined.
- Let the eggnog cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until chilled.
- Before serving, whisk the chilled eggnog to froth it up and garnish with whipped cream and cinnamon sticks if desired.
